Overview

Angela Johnson’s fascinating journey in life is reflected in her magnificent work. The emotion, compositional flow, dramatic design and exquisite detail have become her signature elements.

Career

From her childhood on a dairy farm in Montana to studying Vocal Performance at BYU and many years of public performances as an operative soprano to the incredible discovery of her gift to sculpt, Johnson has followed a path of discipleship.

Within the past twelve years since she began to sculpt, she has received extensive acknowledgement for her masterful work. Angela’s work has been on exhibit at the Newport Beach Temple Open House, the Museum of Church History and Art, as well as the Mesa Arizona Temple Visitors’ Center. The Healing Power of Jesus Christ exhibit was at the Visitors’ Center for nearly 6 months and will continue public exhibition at other Visitors’ Centers in the United States for the next several years.

Her latest work entitled, “And Should We Die,” which is a dramatic depiction of a pioneer handcart scene, was the centerpiece of the Museum of Church History and Art for over a year. The Museum recognized Angela’s outstanding work, awarding her the prestigious Merit Award for her life-sized depiction of Jesus Christ titled, “Come Unto Me.” “Come Unto Me” is now part of the LDS Church Art Collection.

Additional Work

Johnson has sculpted numerous private commissions among which are Barry and Bobby Bonds for Arizona State University and “Rising From the Ashes,” a work created for the Rising Star Outreach, a non-profit foundation that works with the leprosy colonies of India. She is also the Director of theI Am the Light of the World Foundation, a non-profit that has been organized to create a sculpture garden depicting the teachings and miracles of Jesus Christ.

Family Life

Johnson is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her lifelong love and adoration of Jesus Christ is the guiding power of her life. Once asked by a newspaper editor if she looks at her hands and is amazed at what she has been able to accomplish, she replied, “It is more amazing to me what Jesus Christ can do with a soul.”
