Wayne Erickson graduated from BYU in 1979 with a Master's in Music Education.

Erickson began his musical career when he was nine and had a crush on a girl in the school band. He learned to play the clarinet to impress her, but rather found himself impressed by music.

In June 2009, Erickson retired after 22 years at UVU. He was one of the founders of their music program and served as the director of bands.

Following his retirement, Erickson accepted a position at Monticello High School, the very school he first taught at after completing college.
