Tom Lefler

Tom Lefler graduated from BYU in 1973 with a BA in English and American Literature, studying for an additional two years to get a Masters Degree in English Literature and then later completing a Masters Degree in Film Studies in 1996. He left BYU for ten years working in a plethora of positions in media and promotion related employment. He has worked for the Utah Film Commission as a liaison, a director of creative services for Leucadia Film Corporation and Vineyard Productions, and has worked as a freelance writer. He continues to write and develop feature film and documentary projects.In 1982 Lefler returned to, the then BYU Motion Picture Studio, where he both served as the studio administrator and wrote, produced and directed projects for BYU and the LDS Church. He produced original programs including Le Afi Au Mu (The Fire is Burning), the 10-part educational series Ancestors and the one hour The Call of the Story: An American Renaissance, all for PBS. Other projects include translating the stage play Hancock County into a teleplay form, producing Letting God Have His Way: A Conversation about C. S. Lewis, and facilitating the production of the documentary projects African Saints, Helmut Hubener and The Prize is Worth the Restraint: The Life of J. Reuben Clark, and Sisters in Zion.
Presently Lefler serves as an administrator and a faculty member for the Department of Theatre and Media Arts and lab administrator, and as the chair of the BYU Film Committee.
