Todd Coleman' graduated from BYU in 1996 with a Bachelor of Music in composition. His teachers included Stephen Jones, Murray Boren, David Sargent, and Michael Hicks. In 1999 Coleman recieved his MM in composition from the Eastman School of Music and a DMA in composition from Eastman in 2002. His teachers included Joseph Schwantner, Chrisopher Rouse, Augusta Read Thomas, and David Liptak. He studied double bass with James VanDemark.

Coleman taught composition, electronic music, and transmedia art at Grinnell College from 2003-2007. In 2007 he joined the faculty of Elon University in North Carolina to establish a new bachelor of science degree program in music technology.

Recent compositions include wind ensemble commission and performances by Middle Tennessee State University, Harding University, Illinois State University, Grinnell College, University of Minnesota-Morris, Elon University, University of North Carolina-Wilmington, University of Utah, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, University of St. Thomas, Troy State University; flute concerto commission by April Clayton and the BYU Chamber Orchestra, funded by the Barlow Endowment; solo piano commission and recording my Mormon Artists Group; amplified cello, digital audio and dual video projection commission by Florent Renard-Payen and the Barlow Endowment.

Coleman's music has also been performed by the Minnesota Orchestra, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and many university and high school ensembles.
