Stephanie S. Smith

Stephanie S. Smith is a councilwoman in North Las Vegas and ran for mayor in 2009. She is also a music educator in the Clark County School District.Smith graduated from Brigham Young University in 1983 with a degree in Music Education. In July 2004, she completed the Harvard University Program for Senior Executives at the John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Smith has been a resident of North Las Vegas since 1991. She was elected to the City Council in 1997. She was elected to the Nevada Assembly in 1992 and served one term in the legislature. She also served as a member of the Governor’s Maternal and Child Health Board.
Smith is an alternate on the Southern Nevada District Board of Health. She is a member of the North Las Vegas Housing Authority Board and chair of the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition. She is a member of the Clark County School District Local Oversight Panel. She serves as a member of the Civilian Military Council of Southern Nevada. She is a member and past president of the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities, which named her Public Official of the Year in 2007. She serves on the board of the Nevada Arts Advocates and on the advisory board to local public radio station KNPR.
