Education
Sam Cardon graduated from BYU with a BA in Music in 1993.
Career
Cardon is a prolific composer whose credits include nine large-format films, including Texas, The Big Picture, Lewis and Clark, Mysteries of Egypt and Treasure of the Gods. He considers the IMAX soundtrack to Hearst Castle: Building the Dream to be his best orchestral work.
Cardon also wrote the score for Olympic Glory, a Kieth Merrill IMAX film about the Nagano Olympics. He was involved in other Olympic projects as well, including three hours of original music for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Canada as well as the Closing Ceremonies for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games.
Additionally, Cardon has worked on themes for National Geographic Explorer, ABC Sunday Night at the Movies and Good Morning America.
Awards
His musical talents were recognized as a BYU Music Major when he received the Jazz Performer of the Year award in 1980. Since then, his honors have included a New York Film Festival Award, BMI Olympian Award, a Telly Award and the governor’s Mansion Artist Award in 2002.
Since 1987 Cardon has been a freelance composer. Previous career choices included creative director for Broadcast International, Inc., Music Director for the Osmond Brothers and co-owner of Pinnacle Group.
In 2006, Sam Cardon was reocongized as an Honored Alumnus of the College of Fine Arts and Communications at BYU.
