Ryan D. Cannon
From College of Fine Arts and Communications
Ryan D. Cannon grew up in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State. He moved to Utah to attend the University of Utah, and then received his BA in Media Arts Studies from BYU in December 2005.
In 2006, Cannon teamed with fellow alumni Melissa S. Brady, Jedediah H. Cowley, and Paul R. Tuft to create a commercial campaign for the “Spot On” Utah Film Commission Contest. Their spots, titled “Letterboxers,” took the grand prize. Their other entry, “Now There’s Utah,” received an honorable mention.
In 2008, Cannon made his first apprearance at the Sundance Film Festival, with a short-film called, The Loss of a Wrestling Match. Cannon was the cinematographer for the film.
Later that year, Cannon was awarded a three-year James A. Michener Fellowship in creative writing from the University of Texas. The fellowship includes an annual stipend plus a professional development fund for travel and research.
Cannon’s other credits include various projects, including commercials, short films, documentaries, and feature length films. Cannon has worked as a cinematographer, gaffer, director, and producer. (Press Release)
