Nathan Pacheco
From College of Fine Arts and Communications
Nathan Pacheco graduated from BYU in 2005 with a degree in Vocal Performance. This Washington, DC native of Brazilian descent sports an operatic voice with crossover pop potential in the mode of Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban.
“I sing from my heart,” says Pacheco. “Because that’s the way they do it in Brazil.”
After auditioning for producer Ric Wake, who introduced him to Yanni, Pacheco set to putting lyrics and additional music to some of the legendary musician’s most famous works, such as Adagio, Tribute, Almost a Whisper, Enchantment, Secret Vows and In the Mirror, as well as working on his own original material.
“It’s a perfect fit,” he says. “As a singer, I couldn’t wish for a better opportunity because Yanni’s music has so much emotion and my singing style requires that kind of feeling. When I listen to his music, it’s very easy for me to write lyrics to it. It’s a thrilling process.”
Pacheco’s Latin romanticism comes out in his words and singing, but he also relates to Yanni’s belief in the importance of having the courage to reach your dreams and the hope of bringing unity and peace to the world through music.
“Yanni is so respectful of all cultures, beliefs and people,” explains Pacheco. “On Tribute, we wrote about humanity having experienced so much progress in so many areas, but if we’re able to channel our efforts, who knows how much good we can accomplish in the areas of understanding and tolerance of others.”
“It’s an artist’s dream,” he enthuses. “I wake up every morning and get to do the things that I love. I not only get to make this amazing music with them, but they’ve also been my mentors, teaching me valuable lessons about life.”
Pacheco claims he’s learned about discipline and the ability to focus on completing a project. “Yanni is probably the hardest worker I’ve ever known. When I see him putting so much effort into something, it drives me to work just as hard. We’re all working together to accomplish something incredible. It’s absolutely a dream come true for me.”
