Overview

As an independent film director and screenwriter, Matt Whitaker has been creating critically acclaimed films for over fifteen years.

Education

Whitaker received his degree in Film Production from Brigham Young University in 1992.

Career

Whitaker began his career in Los Angeles, working on films for the Showtime Cable Channel.

He also has produced films in the Utah area and has written and/or directed dozens of short film and commercials. Recently, he penned the screenplays for the films Saints and Soldiers, The Work and the Glory: American Zion, and The Work and the Glory: A House Divided. Another of his scripts, The Color of Love, is currently slated to begin filming in 2008.

Whitaker has also produced and directed a number of award-winning documentary films for PBS including Ancestors (Director) and The Call of Story (Producer). He recently produced and directed the compelling documentary Small Fortunes: Microcredit and the Future of Poverty, which featured 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus and Academy Award winning actress Linda Hunt.

In 2002, Whitaker produced and directed the PBS documentary Truth and Conviction: The Helmuth Hübener Story, featuring Karl-Heinz Schnibbe, the last surviving member of the Hübener Resistance Group. This documentary served as the basis for his latest feature script Truth & Treason, which he is also producing and directing. Truth & Treason is slated to begin filming in 2008.
