Overview
Kevin Stoker grew up in Roberts, Idaho and graduated from BYU in 1981 with a degree in Journalism.
Career
He worked for the Clinton Daily News as a sports editor, the Lawton Constitution and Morning Press as an area reporter/photographer and later as a city beat reporter, and the Deseret News as a Church News staff writer. He has free-lanced for business publications in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Utah.
Service at BYU
Stoker joined the Communications Department at BYU in 1999 along with Michael Perkins (who passed away in 2003), Edward Adams and Bradley Rawlins. Over the course of the next ten years, these new faculty members worked to improve the department. Scholarly research increased from two or three articles a year to more than 25 peer-reviewed articles published annually by the faculty in the department.
He also served for three years as associate department chair over graduate studies.
In June 2009, Stoker left BYU to accept a position as associate dean of faculty in the College of Mass Communications at Texas Tech University.
Scholarly Research
In 2008, Stoker presented his paper, “Henry Wallace: Farm Press Pulpit” at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication annual convention.
