Jedediah H. Cowley received his BA in Media Arts Studies in August 2006. Cowley is currently an MFA Film Student at Columbia University.

In 2006, Cowley teamed with fellow alumni Melissa S. Brady, Ryan D. Cannon, and Paul R. Tuft to create a commercial campaign for the “Spot On” Utah Film Commission Contest. Their spots, titled “Letterboxers,” took the grand prize. Their other entry, “Now There’s Utah,” received an honorable mention.

In 2008, Cowley’s short-film, The Loss of a Wrestling Match, which he wrote and directed, appeared as part of the Sundance Film Festival. The film, which was semi-biographical of Cowley’s experiences as a high school wrestler, focuses on the emotions of the one wrestler.

Of his experience at Sundance, Cowley told the Deseret News,

I think I make films because I like people and I like to think about life and our situation here as human beings and how crazy it is to live on this earth. It's been kind of hard to associate myself with all of these other filmmakers (at the Sundance Film Festival). It's been hard to be confident about my film and pass out fliers and say, 'Come see my film,' but once I got past that and realized they're just people who are trying to tell stories, it's been easier to be comfortable (Choate-Nielsen).
