Jade McDowell
Jade McDowell graduated from BYU in 2011 with a degree in Print Journalism. Jade writes for The Dalles Chronicle in The Dalles, Oregon. While at BYU she was a reporter, then metro editor, and then opinion editor for The Daily Universe. In 2011 she received second place in the Hearst contest in the opinion writing category for her editorial Sticks and Stones: Supreme Court Should Protect Hate Speech in The Daily Universe. In 2011 and 2012 she received the 2nd-place award for Editorial Writing from the Society of Professional Journalists for her work in The Daily Universe.
Her Daily Universe columnThey're killing GRAMA also received first place Opinion Column from the Utah Headliners Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in 2012.
In 2012 she won first place from the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association Better Newspapers Contest for editorial writing and third place for best spot news coverage for The Dalles Chronicle. She also received Honorable Mention for Best Serious Column at the National Newspaper Association's 2012 Better Newspaper contest.
