Heather Walker Sandstrom graduated from Brigham Young University in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism.

She worked as a television news anchorwoman in New York, Boston, Canada, Utah, Oregon and Arizona. Sandstrom is a former Miss Teen Calgary, Alberta, USA National College Queen, and Mrs. Oregon.

Sandstrom served on numerous boards and foundations, including the United Families International Board of Dirctors since 2007. She has been a member of American Mothers since 1990 and has served as the Young Mother Search Chairman and the Public Relations Chairman.

Sandstrom hosted an Internet talk show on parenting called "Mom to Mom," which reaches an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 listeners per week. She also co-hosted the weekly United Families blog talk radio show Voice of the Nation.

Sandstorm arranged for LDS athletes to speak about their beliefs on top local talk shows including Boston Celtic NBA players Danny Ainge and Greg Kite as well as Bruce Hurst of the Boston Red Sox and Trevor Matich of the New England Patriots.
