Early Life

David Whitmer Swenson was born January 19, 1919 in Logan Utah, a son of David Whitmer Swenson Sr. and Lelia Standley.

Education

Swenson graduated from South Cache High School. He received both his Bachelor and Masters in music from BYU in 1943 and 1948 respectively. During the early 1950's he spent much of his time working on his PHD in music at the University of Southern California.

Career

Swenson spent over 35 years teaching in the California school systems and was Vice President of the Southern California Vocal Association for several years.

Personal Life

Swenson was married to Letha Romney Swenson in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 58 years. After Letha passed away on January 5, 2006, David remarried Elna Lue Jewett on October 20, 2006. David was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings and positions. He and his wife Letha served an LDS mission in Honduras for 18 months and also worked as a temple ordinance worker in the Provo Temple for 12 years. Dave was a Veteren of WWII and served as a Lieutenant in the United State Navy.

Swenson passed away June 12, 2010, in Sandy Utah. He is survived by two daughters and two sons, Renee (Gary) Winkel of Apple Valley, CA; David W. (Amy) Swenson of Budd Lake, NJ; Darrel Jay (Annette) Swenson of Sandy, UT; and Jody Lynn (Michael) Anderson of Sandy, UT; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 2 step-sons (Ed L. McDonald and Dennis Jay McDonald), 6 Grand-Step children, and 5 Step Great-Children. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by 2 sisters and 2 brothers
