Dan Bachelder

Daniel Fred Bachelder was the director of the Cougar Marching Band from 1977 to 1980 and co-director with David Blackinton from 1980-1983.

Bachelder earned a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Montana, a master's degree in music from the University of Idaho, and a PhD in music from Brigham Young University in 1976.

Bachelder is the author of the fifth edition of Guide to Teaching Brass (1992).

A trombonist, conductor and composer, as well as teacher, Bachelder toured Japan, Canada, Austrailia and New Zealand with the brass quintent Brassworks. He appeared frequently as a trombonist and euphonium soloist with Utah wind ensembles and on tour with the BYU Winds Symphony.
