Claire W. Reid

Claire William Reid was the Department chair for the School of Music at Brigham Young University from 1917-1920.

Reid was a native of Manti, Utah. He was born on Devember 1, 1872 to William Taylor and Adelaide Cox Reid. He was married to Ethel Lowry on October 9, 1895. After her death in October of 1899, he married Lydia Catherine Thurman on June 8, 1909.

Reid received a certificate in music from Brigham Young Academy in 1893. He studied at the New England conservatory following his graduation from Brigham Young Academy. He was a music instructor in San Francisco, California before coming to BYU. After his time as chair at BYU, he left to teach at the McCune School in Salt Lake.

Reid died on April 3, 1958.
