Amy Petersen Jensen is a professor in the Theatre and Media Arts Department and an associate dean for the College of Fine Arts and Communications at Brigham Young University. She was the chair of the Theatre and Media Arts Department from 2010 to 2015.

Jensen graduated from BYU in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in theatre arts education and in 1998 with a master's degree in theatre and film. She then went on to receive a PhD in theatre history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004.

In addition to teaching and research, Jensen directs the Theatre and Media Arts Department's Hands on a Camera service-learning project, in which Theatre and Media Education students work with in-service public school educators to train young people in media literacy and in production skills.

Jensen has received numerous grants for Media in Education projects including Hands on a Camera; The Daylight Media Project, which is a curriculum database for film studies teachers in the public school system; and the Film and Culture Series, which is a media literacy project that brought high school teachers and their students to Brigham Young University to study cultural theory as it related to contemporary film texts.

In 2009 Jensen was awarded the Young Scholar Award at BYU's University Conference. This award encourages and acknowledges outstanding promise and contributions by faculty in the early stages of their academic careers. She is currently the first vice president over publications at the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE). Jensen is also co-editor of the online journal sponsored by NAMLE, the Journal of Media Literacy Education.

Jensen is the co-editor and co-author of the book, (Re)imagining Content-area Literacy Instruction, published by the National Writing Project and Teachers College Press in 2010. The other editors include Roni Jo Draper, Paul Broomhead, Jeffery D. Nokes, and Daniel Siebert, all faculty at BYU.

In 2011, Jensen received a citizenship award from the BYU Faculty Women's Association. Each year the Faculty Women's Association recognizes women who have made a valuable contribution at the international, national, regional, state, and community levels and also to the university and their respective colleges and departments. The same year, she won the NAMLE Meritorious Service Award, which is given for outstanding service to the field over a significant period of time.

Jensen spoke on March 20, 2012 at the BYU campus' weekly Devotional. She spoke on the positive use of media and technology for our good, and gave recommendations for ways to positively interact with technology. The transcription of her speech was published in the Fall 2012 edition of BYU Magazine.

In 2013, Jensen presented at the Women's Conference at BYU. She spoke on using digital media to bring families closer together. Her presentation included several prerecorded video clip examples. She was assisted by a team of three BYU students in her preparation, Tess Kelly, Stephen Nelson, and Laura Smith. Also that year, Jensen worked on a new revision of the Core Principles of Media Literacy Education, which were originally established in 2007 by NAMLE. Additionally, Jensen participated in the Arts Academic Advisory Committee for the College Board Academic Advisory Committee, designing academic assessments such as AP tests, the SATs, and the AP Capstone.

In 2014, she received professional development funding from the College of Fine Arts and Communications for presentation at the 9th International Conference on the Arts in Society. The following year, she and fellow faculty member Tom Lefler produced By Study, By Faith, a series of stories highlighting women faculty members at BYU. Also in 2015, she and Benjamin Thevenin presented a session entitled "Using Arts Education and the National Core Arts Standards to Enrich Media Literacy Education" at the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE). Jensen was the Awards Chair for the organization.

Jensen was a co-editor and co-author of Arts Education and Literacies, a book that was part of the Routedge Research in Literacy Series in 2015.
